Gly-Phe-OH is a cyclic hexapeptide that is used as a substrate for the enzyme glycyl-tRNA hydroxylase. Glycyl-tRNA hydroxylase catalyzes the conversion of glycyl-tRNA to glycyl-AMPA and phosphate. This reaction is involved in energy metabolism, protein synthesis, and cellular proliferation. The hydroxyl group of Gly-Phe-OH reacts with the active site of Glycyl-tRNA hydroxylase to produce an intermediate that undergoes an elimination reaction. The elimination reaction leads to the release of AMPA and phosphate from Gly-Phe-OH. X ray diffraction data has been collected on this compound at physiological pH values and at pH values greater than 8.5, which are conditions that favor its ionization state. These data show that Gly-Phe-OH is stable at physiological pH values but becomes unstable when the pH value exceeds 7.5 due to ionization
