Gemigliptin is a drug that belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It has been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β, which are involved in the development of diabetes. Gemigliptin also inhibits the bcl-2 protein and promotes apoptosis in cells with increased levels of DPP-4. It has been studied in combination therapy with metformin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition, gemigliptin has been shown to have insulinotropic effects, suggesting that it may be an effective agent for type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Gemigliptin binds to Toll-like receptors on macrophages and dendritic cells, preventing them from inducing inflammation.
