β-Glucuronidase from Helix pomatia is a recombinant enzyme that hydrolyzes glucuronic acid to galactose and glucose. The enzyme is apically located in the epithelium of the small intestine and plays a role in the digestion of polysaccharides. β-Glucuronidase from Helix pomatia has been used to assay the activity of other enzymes that are involved in glycosylation, such as uridine diphosphate (UDP) glucuronyltransferases, which synthesize glucuronic acid. In addition, β-glucuronidase can be used to determine the extent of lysosomal degradation by measuring the release of galactose following incubation with the enzyme. This product is available for use in tissue samples and can be used for measuring protein synthesis rates or to establish synchronization between cellular processes using particle counting.
