Description:Gymnestrogenin is a triterpenoid saponin that is extracted from an endophytic fungus, Gymnema sylvestre. It has anti-inflammatory effects in tissue culture and has been shown to inhibit the release of inflammatory cytokines. Gymnestrogenin also inhibits the nuclear hormone receptors (NHRs) such as PPARγ, LXRα and FXRα, which are involved in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. The drug also has antidiabetic effects, but it is not yet known how gymnestrogenin achieves this.
