Description:Sm21 is a 5-HT1A receptor antagonist that can be used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It binds to the 5-HT1A receptor and prevents the release of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Sm21 has also been shown to have antinociceptive effects in animals by acting as a 5-HT1A agonist. This drug can also be used for treatment of neuropathic pain because it inhibits the release of serotonin from nerve endings. The drug may exacerbate dyskinesia and cause neuropathic pain when it is used with dopamine antagonists.
