Ethyl (E)-3-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate is a natural product that is structurally related to glycerin. It has a high water solubility and is used in dermatology as an absorbent. Ethyl (E)-3-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate can also be used as an absorber in cosmetic formulations, and has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
