Hierochin D is a natural product that has been isolated from the roots of Hierochloe odorata L. (sweet grass). It contains two major active compounds, lariciresinol and glutinoside, which are glycosides of jionoside. Jionoside is an iridoid glucoside that inhibits the activity of bacterial enzymes such as dna gyrase and topoisomerase IV. The extract has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in rats and mice, which may be due to its content of catalpol and italicum.
