Trans-2-Hexenol is a naturally occurring unsaturated alkyl ester that is found in various plants and fruits. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of receptor cells and can also be used as a preservative in cosmetics. Trans-2-Hexenol binds to p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is a major metabolite of salicylic acid, and prevents it from binding to the surface methodology. This helps prevent the formation of an anion radical scavenging system, which would otherwise cause damage to cell membranes. Trans-2-Hexenol also binds with allyl carbonate and enzyme hydrolysis, inhibiting population growth. The trigeminal nerve senses trans-2-hexenol and activates the weevil’s fatty acid metabolism, leading to allylation reactions that release isovaleric acid.
