2-Hydroxy-4-methyl-3-nitropyridine (HNPP) is a molecule that has been shown to inhibit the transcriptase activity of HIV. It is an allosteric modulator of the cb2 receptor and can also be used in cancer research due to its ability to induce apoptosis in human cells. HNPP also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species, which may be due to its ability to bind to chlorine atoms. This functional group is responsible for electron transfer reactions and may play a role in the anti-cancer effects of HNPP. HNPP has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and inhibiting the elongation phase of translation. The compound also binds with high affinity to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) RNA, interfering with transcriptional activation and replication.
