2-Hydroxy-4-methyl-5-nitropyridine is a metabolite of the drug aminoguanidine and has been found to possess possible antihypertensive properties. 2-Hydroxy-4-methyl-5-nitropyridine is a nitroheterocyclic compound that is chemically related to nicotinamide, an essential component of human diet. It has been shown to affect blood pressure in db/db mice by decreasing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II.
