Description

2-Hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone is a metal chelate that has been used to activate metals such as potassium dichromate and hydrogen peroxide. It is considered to be safe for use in humans and animals, with a LD50 greater than 20g/kg in rats. The compound is characterized by an absorption maximum at 360nm and an extinction coefficient of approximately 3200M-1cm-1. 2-Hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone can be used as a UV absorber in cosmetics and sunscreens, or as a photoinitiator for the polymerization of polymers.
