H-His-Pro-OH is a nucleotide that is synthesized from the precursor His-Pro by the enzyme histidine kinase and phosphotransferase. H-His-Pro-OH is a substrate for ribonucleotide reductase, which catalyzes the conversion of H-His-Pro to deoxyadenosine monophosphate (dAMP). The enzyme adenyl cyclase catalyzes the conversion of dAMP to cyclic AMP (cAMP) and guanylate cyclase catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cGMP. These reactions are important in regulating cellular physiology. H-His-Pro has been shown to have an hypoglycemic effect when administered with insulin in experimental models, suggesting it may be useful for treating metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus.
