Description:
3-Hydroxypropylacetamide is a hydrophobic, hydrophilic and colorless liquid. It has been patented in the United States for its use as an animal feed additive to prevent death or bile acid production. 3-Hydroxypropylacetamide may also have neurotoxic effects, which are related to its inhibition of polyamine oxidase. 3-Hydroxypropylacetamide inhibits the activity of this enzyme, which catalyzes the oxidation of polyamines and therefore prevents the formation of hydrogen peroxide, a major contributor to oxidative stress. This compound may also have anti-oxidant properties due to its ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation in vitro.
