2-Hydroxy-5-iodobenzaldehyde is a trichomonas vaginalis drug that belongs to the class of supramolecular drugs. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA, inhibiting their transcription and replication. The supramolecular structure of 2-hydroxy-5-iodobenzaldehyde is stabilized by hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions. This compound has also been shown to affect insulin sensitivity in mice, as well as toxicity studies, analytical methods, and metal ion binding. The compound's antimycobacterial activity is due to its ability to bind tightly with active methylene groups, which are crucial for bacterial cell wall synthesis. 2-Hydroxy-5-iodobenzaldehyde's tautomeric form can be converted into an imine group via oxidation or reduction reactions or tetradentate ligands such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).
