Hesperadin is a natural product that has been found to have potential as a drug target for cancer and autoimmune diseases. This molecule is an inhibitor of protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of protein kinase. Hesperadin binds to the ATP-binding site on the protein kinase and forms hydrogen bonds with amino acid residues, such as glutamine and lysine. Hesperadin also has the ability to bind actin filaments, which are important in mitotic checkpoint activation. In addition, hespedaridin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal models. Hesperadin was originally isolated from plants belonging to the genus Prunus and is effective against glioma cells in vitro. It is also effective against infectious diseases, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
