Hesperetin chalcone is a flavonoid that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. Hesperetin chalcone inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme dehydrogenase, which is needed for the biosynthesis of fatty acids. In an experimental result, it was found that hesperetin chalcone inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and E coli. It also inhibits aromatase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. Hesperetin chalcone has been found to be a potent inhibitor of eukaryotic dehydrogenases and isomerases in vitro. Hesperetin chalcone binds to copper ions and can be analyzed using spectroscopy techniques.
