Description:

Hexadecanedioic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that can be formed by the oxidation of hexadecane. Hexadecanedioic acid has been shown to have a high redox potential and its metabolic rate increases in adipose tissue. In liver cells, it is converted to caproic acid, which can regulate the levels of camp. Hexadecanedioic acid also inhibits the enzyme activities of hepatic lipase and fatty acid synthase in rat liver cells. This compound has been used as a model system for studying biochemical reactions involving carboxylic acids.
