Description

Heptadecan-1-ol is a long-chain alcohol that has a hydroxyl group on its terminal carbon. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 148°C and an odor that ranges from sweet to rancid. Heptadecan-1-ol has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties similar to those of octanol. The compound has been found in the blood plasma of humans following intravenous injection, as well as in human breast milk. Heptadecan-1-ol can be used as an analytical method for determining the concentration of hydroxyl groups in other compounds. The sample preparation involves applying the compound to a substrate film at room temperature and then adding detergent compositions to remove nonpolar components such as fatty acids or alkanoic acids. Heptadecan-1-ol has been shown to be effective in lowering high sensitivity C reactive protein levels in rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostagland
