5-Hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavone is a natural flavonoid that has been shown to inhibit the activity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to the enzyme DNA polymerase. It also has antiangiogenic properties and may be useful in treating basophilic leukemia. The use of 5-hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavone may help suppress tumor growth by preventing blood vessels from developing. This compound has also been shown to have detoxification enzymes that are active against a number of different compounds. Some of these detoxification enzymes include glutathione S transferases and cytochrome P450s. 5-Hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavone is an antiinflammatory agent that regulates the production of cytokines and chemokines in response to inflammatory stimuli, such as toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) ligands.
