Product Information
- 1-Naphthalenecarboxaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-
- 4-Hydroxynaphthalene-1-Carbaldehyde
4-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde is a benzaldehydic compound that has shown antibacterial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and acid-fast bacteria. This compound was also found to be effective in controlling the growth of bacterial biofilms. The mechanism of action involves a hydrogen bond between the aldehyde group and the protonated amine group of a lysine residue in the bacterial cell wall. 4-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde is not active against bacteria that have an electron transfer system or high redox potential. In this case, an electron acceptor such as oxygen must be present for the reaction to occur.
