Description:
4-N-Hexyloxynitrobenzene is a hydrophobic, colorless liquid that is soluble in ether and slightly soluble in water. It has an equilibrium constant of 2.2 at 25°C, pK a of 4.6, and pK b of 11.5. The reaction with p-nitrophenyl gives a hydroxyphenyl compound with the ether group replaced by hexyl. 4-N-Hexyloxynitrobenzene can be used as a solvent for nitrocellulose or other cellulose esters, and as an additive to plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate.
