HEPPS is a drug that belongs to the group of organic compounds with a sulfate group. It is a dextran sulfate salt that is used as an anticoagulant in blood transfusions, as a diagnostic aid for liver diseases, and to treat various types of bacterial infections. HEPPS has been shown to have irreversible inhibition on cytochrome P450 enzymes and thus can be used as an antimicrobial agent. This drug also has coordination geometry, which makes it act as a calcium-binding agent and have p450 activity. HEPPS has been shown to be toxic for the liver and fetal bovine cells.
