1,5-Hexadienediepoxide is an epoxide that has been shown to have the ability to form cross-links with DNA and proteins. This chemical was found to be cytotoxic in hamster v79 cells and mammalian cells. 1,5-Hexadienediepoxide is a reactive monoadduct and has been shown to induce cancer in animals. Mass spectrometric analysis has also shown that this compound reacts with nucleophilic amines. This chemical is known to react with proteins such as cytochrome c or albumin. 1,5-Hexadienediepoxide can also react with nucleophilic amines such as glutathione. The kinetic of the reaction between 1,5-hexanedideepoxide and glutathione is dependent on pH and temperature.
