Description

Gamma-Himachalene is a sesquiterpene alcohol that has been shown to have antioxidant potential. The antioxidant activity of this compound may be due to its radical scavenging activity and ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation. Gamma-himachalene has also been shown to have antibacterial properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA and RNA. Gamma-himachalene is found in Heliotropium (heliotrope) and other plants, as well as in many essential oils such as hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid), estragole (estragol), anisaldehyde, and anethole. This compound can be extracted using techniques such as headspace or microextraction.
