Product Information

Name:
2-Hydroxythioxanthone
Synonyms:
  • 2-Hydroxy-9H-thioxanthen-9-one2-Hydroxythioxanthen-9-one
Description:

2-Hydroxythioxanthone is a linear molecule with a hydroxyl group at the end of the chain. This compound is photoreduced by light to form 2-hydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone (2HBQ), which can undergo polymerization. The rate of this reaction is proportional to the intensity of the light, and it can be modeled mathematically using a linear model. 2HBQ has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in amniotic fluid cells, and also promotes heart health by reducing angiotensin II levels in mice. It functions as an antioxidant by donating electrons to reactive oxygen species and preventing lipid peroxidation.
