Description

Hexamethylenediamine is an organic compound that is used as a precursor for the production of polyamide and polyurethane. Hexamethylenediamine reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form hexamethylene diamine. The reaction mechanism involves the hydrophobic effect. Hexamethylenediamine has been used as an antimicrobial agent in wastewater treatment and has been shown to be effective against solid tumours in mice. Hexamethylene diamine has a hydroxyl group that can hydrogen bond with other molecules, which may help to explain its effectiveness against solid tumours.
