Product Information
1-Chloro-4-(1-chloroethyl)benzene (1,4-dichlorobenzene) is an organic compound that belongs to the group of halogenated aromatic compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor and a boiling point of 220 °C. 1,4-Dichlorobenzene can be synthesized by the oxidative coupling reaction between benzene and chlorine. This process involves the dihedral angle between the two chlorines being 180° in order for the electron pair to be transferred to the benzene ring. The reaction requires an oxidant such as iron(III) oxide or manganese dioxide and amines as catalysts. The products are 1,4-dichlorobenzene and hydrogen chloride gas.
