It can be used as a sensor for metal ions and has been calibrated with chloride ion. 4-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-amine can be titrated with an acid solution to produce a colorimetric or potentiometric response. The sensor has the ability to detect gadolinium at concentrations as low as 0.5 ppm and its sensitivity ranges from 10 mV/mm to 100 mV/mm.
