- 2-Hydroxyacetophenone
2'-Hydroxyacetophenone is a colorless to yellowish liquid with a sweet, balsamic odor. It is soluble in alcohol, ether and chloroform, but insoluble in water. 2'-Hydoxyacetophenone has been shown to have cytotoxic activity and photochemical properties. This compound is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives that are used as natural compounds and pharmaceuticals. The reaction mechanism for this compound involves the conversion of protonated molecules into reactive intramolecular hydrogen atoms. These reactive molecules can react with metal hydroxides to form metal acetates or other metal oxides. X-ray diffraction data for this compound has also been reported.
