2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate is a monomer used in the synthesis of polymers. It is a small molecule drug that has been shown to have antiviral, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. 2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate can be conjugated with other small molecules to form water soluble polymers for biomedical applications such as controlled release of drugs or protein delivery. The polymerization process leads to intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the methyl ethyl chains, which has been shown to have biological properties such as cell nuclei formation and constant pressure. 2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate also has anti-inflammatory effects and can be used as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans.
