Cis-3'-hydroxycotinine is a metabolite of nicotine that has been detected in human urine and rat liver microsomes. Cotinine is the parent compound of cis-3'-hydroxycotinine, which can be generated by the cytochrome P450 enzyme. The detection of this metabolite can be used to assess tobacco use in vivo or in vitro.
