Description:4-Hydroxy estazolam is an active metabolite of estazolam and is formed in the liver by oxidation. It is excreted in the urine, and its half-life ranges from 3 to 6 hours. 4-Hydroxy estazolam shows a high affinity for benzophenone, which is also a metabolite of estazolam. 4-Hydroxy estazolam has been detected in human plasma at concentrations up to 1.5 ng/mL, but it does not accumulate in the body. The benzophenone metabolite has been detected in human plasma at concentrations up to 3 ng/mL, with a half-life of 24 hours. Estazolam undergoes extensive metabolism through glucuronidation and oxidation to form 4-hydroxy estazolam and other metabolites that are excreted in urine.
