This compound is used for the synthesis of nitroimidazoles, which are used in devices such as ion-selective electrodes. Hydroxy ipronidazole is also used in the synthesis of linear range molecules, which are used for validation purposes. It has been shown to have acidic properties and regulatory properties with regard to nitroimidazoles.
