9-(4'-Hydroxyaminophenyl)-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole is a heterocyclic amine that has been shown to be genotoxic in animal studies. 9-(4'-Hydroxyaminophenyl)-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole is formed during the cooking of meat at high temperatures and can be found in high concentrations in meats cooked at high temperatures. This chemical has been shown to cause chromosomal aberrations, induce DNA strand breaks and inhibit DNA repair enzymes. 9-(4'-Hydroxyaminophenyl)-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole may also have carcinogenic effects on humans.
