4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine is a psychedelic and hallucinogenic drug with serotonergic properties. It has been shown to bind to the 5HT2A receptor, which is involved in the regulation of mood and anxiety. This compound also binds to the GABA receptor, which may account for its sedative effects. 4HMT has a high affinity for human liver microsomes, but it is not metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes or monooxygenases. The major metabolic pathway involves demethylation followed by hydroxylation of the hydroxyl group on the indole ring. Other routes include oxidation of the methoxy group on the tryptamine side chain and cleavage of the amide bond between tryptamine and methanol. These metabolites are excreted in urine as conjugates with glucuronic acid or sulfate. br>4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N
