Description:3-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)propionitrile (3HP) is a natural product that has been found to inhibit the activity of the enzyme parathyroid adenomatosis, which leads to an accumulation of calcium in the blood. 3HP is hydrolyzed by glucobarbarin, a cytochrome P450 enzyme in liver cells, to phenylpropionic acid and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. The subsequent conjugation of these metabolites with glutathione results in the formation of 3-hydroxy-4-phenylpropionic acid, which inhibits the activity of parathyroid adenomatosis by increasing its degradation rate.
