6-Hydroxyquinoline-(1H)-2-one is an organic compound that has been shown to inhibit the uptake of carbostyril by bacterial cells. This inhibition causes increased uptake of xanthurenic acid and anthranilic acid, which are two compounds that are found in wastewater treatment. 6-Hydroxyquinoline-(1H)-2-one may be a potential anticancer agent, as it inhibits the growth of astroglia cells and bladder cancer cells. It also reacts with acylation reactions to form quinolinic acid, which has been shown to have anticancer effects.
