Description:2-(Hydroxy)thioanisole is a sulfurous, reactive chemical that is used in coatings. It reacts with hydroxyl groups to form a protective coating and can also be used as an antioxidant. 2-(Hydroxy)thioanisole has been shown to inhibit the growth of human ovarian carcinoma cells by forming hydrogen bonds with their sulfhydryl groups. 2-(Hydroxy)thioanisole has been investigated for use in hydrogen-sensitive electrochemical methods such as the measurement of pH and oxidation-reduction potentials. This compound has also been found to have biochemical properties, including intramolecular hydrogen bond formation, chelate ring formation, and diluent properties.
