4-Hydroxy-thiobenzamide is a compound that is used as a pharmaceutical drug. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme called p450, which is involved in the oxidation of drugs and toxins. 4-Hydoxy-thiobenzamide binds to the active site of the enzyme and inhibits it from catalyzing its reaction. This drug also has inhibitory properties on tumour cells in mice with cervical cancer, but has low bioavailability in humans. 4-Hydoxy-thiobenzamide has been shown to have neurotrophic effects, which may be due to its ability to increase levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
