N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)piperazine-N'-(4-butanesulfonic acid) is a polymerase chain inhibitor that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA. It has been shown to be effective against hepatitis and antimicrobial peptides, as well as in clinical studies for the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria. N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)piperazine-N'-(4-butanesulfonic acid) is used for sample preparation prior to the detection of bacterial DNA in biological samples. The chemical stability of this product allows it to be used as an antimicrobial agent in diagnostic applications.br>br>N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)piperazine-N'-(4-butanesulfonic acid) has been shown to have some effects on cardiac function. This may be due to its antihistamine properties or its ability to inhibit catecholamine release from sympathetic nerves.
