• Description: 3-(Hydroxymethyl)phenylboronic acid (3HMBBA) is an analog of 3-hydroxymethylphenylboronic acid. It has been used in the Suzuki coupling reaction to produce a number of biologically important compounds, such as beta-lactamase inhibitors. This compound also inhibits the activity of human liver cancer cells and human liver tissue in vitro. The hydroxy group on the left-hand side of the molecule provides a potent inhibition effect on beta-lactamases that are produced by bacteria and may be useful for treating infections caused by these bacteria. 3HMBBA is soluble in neutral pH solutions, which makes it easy to work with and store. 3HMBBA can also be used as a ferrite for permanent magnets due to its high magnetic moment.
