Description:

8-Hydroxy-4-methylquinoline (8HQL) is a metal chelate that has been shown to have synergic effects with other metal ions. The formation constants of 8HQL and the metal ion are linearly related, which makes it possible to determine the concentration of the metal ion by measuring the intensity of the fluorescence emitted. 8HQL has been used as a fluorescent probe to study lipid droplets in cells, and is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform. Solubility data for 8HQL can be found in literature.
