Hexaethylene glycol is a surfactant that is used as a solvent in paints, lacquers, and varnishes. It is also used as an agent to break down proteins and lipids in biological samples. Hexaethylene glycol has been shown to inhibit the growth of infectious bacteria by disrupting their cell membranes. Hexaethylene glycol also has structural properties that are similar to those of polyethylene glycol (PEG), which may contribute to its antimicrobial activity.
