2-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid is a cyclic monocarboxylic acid that is found as a racemic mixture of cis- and trans- forms. It is an organic acid, and the hydroxy group in the molecule can form esters with fatty acids. 2-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid has been found to have biochemical properties including inhibition of liver cells, which may be due to its ability to generate orthophosphoric acid when acted upon by phosphotransferases. It also has discoloring effects on animal tissues and has been used in pharmaceutical preparations.
