It has been shown that 6-hydroxyhyoscyamine inhibits tumor cell growth by binding to a specific region of the promoter region of the gene encoding for growth factor β1 (GFβ1) and preventing transcription. This agent also has an inhibitory effect on tumor angiogenesis and vascular permeability, which may be related to its ability to inhibit nitric oxide production in endothelial cells. The compound is also known as anisodamine and can be used as an injection solution for patients who have had a myocardial infarct.
