In humans, the main metabolite of 6-hydroxy dexamethasone is 6-keto-dexamethasone, which has been found in urine and saliva as well as in human liver tissue. The metabolism of 6-hydroxy dexamethasone has been studied by 13C NMR spectroscopy and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This drug undergoes side chain cleavage to form various metabolites with different metabolic profiles. These metabolites have been detected in urine, faeces, and blood plasma after oral administration of the drug to humans.
