L-Homocitrulline is a non-protein amino acid that functions as a precursor for the production of L-arginine, and has been shown to be involved in the regulation of fibrinolysis. It is used as a diagnostic tool in histological analysis, with potential applications in disease activity and body mass index. L-Homocitrulline also has various enzyme activities including fibrinogen, l-homocitrulline, and eosinophil peroxidase. L-Homocitrulline can be used as a biomarker for metabolic disorders and energy metabolism, including potential application in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This compound has also been used to develop a model system for studying human serum.
