Description:Homocitrulline is a non-protein amino acid that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and promote fibroblast proliferation in vitro. It was also found to have an inhibitory effect on the production of growth factors by cultured cells. Homocitrulline has been shown to be effective against prostate carcinoma in animal models, as well as chronic treatment in humans. The binding of homocitrulline with receptors on the surface of cells may be responsible for this anti-tumor effect. In addition, it has been shown that analogs of homocitrulline are potent antagonists at GABA receptors, leading to its potential use for epilepsy treatment.
