4-n-Hexylbenzoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the seeds of Solanum tuberosum. It has a phase transition temperature of about 54°C and a melting point of about 58°C. 4-n-Hexylbenzoic acid has been shown to have monophenolase activity and diphenolase activity. This compound also undergoes biotransformations, such as hydrogenation and dehydrogenation, in model systems. The optical properties of 4-n-hexylbenzoic acid are dependent on its concentration. These properties change from yellow at low concentrations to green at high concentrations. The rate of these reactions is dependent on the activation energy required for the reaction to occur.
