4-Hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine is an organic compound that has been studied by x-ray crystallographic analysis. It is a crystalline solid and can be obtained by reacting benzoic acid with 2,4-dichloro-1,3-butadiene in the presence of a base. 4-Hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine is an intermediate in the synthesis of acetophenone and 3,4,5 trichloropyridazine. It also undergoes rearrangement to form 2-(chloromethyl)-4,6-bis(trifluoromethyl)pyridine and then undergoes a second rearrangement to form 1,2,3,4 tetrahydroquinoline.
